Awards for Participants
Guidelines
The aim of the awards is to enable African students, early career researchers and conservationists to participate in the Pan-African Ornithological Congress (PAOC15) in order to present their work.
Please read these guidelines carefully. They contain important information relating to your application for funding and not following these guidelines may jeopardise your application.
Please submit your completed application form to info@paoc15.org before 31 May 2022. When completing your application, please note the following carefully:
- Who can apply?
Applications will be accepted from African students, early career researchers and conservationists who are undertaking or have finished a degree within the last 5 years and are working in the bird research and/or conservation sector. A limited number of awards may be offered in exceptional cases to African Nationals with accepted posters or oral presentations who may have no formal qualifications. Awards will cover expenses to attend PAOC15 to present an oral talk or research poster presentation.
- Size of awards
The PAOC Scientific Committee will assess each application and award grants as deemed appropriate. Awards may cover registration, accommodation and/or international travel. As available funding is limited, the Committee encourages applicants to try to source some institutional funding and/or personal contribution.
- Submitting your application
All Applicants must submit their abstract for their oral presentation before applying for financial assistance to attend PAOC15
Use the application form provided below to submit your application for an award of financial assistance to info@paoc15.org
Applications are only accepted via email. The PAOC Committee will acknowledge receipt of your application. All correspondence will be undertaken by email.
- Reference
You need to supply the name and contact details of a reference for your application. A good referee is someone who knows you or, for students, their project supervisor. The Scientific Committee may contact your named referee as part of the evaluation process.
- PAOC Ethical Policy
The Pan-African Ornithological Congress is committed to upholding the highest scientific standards, and it requires that all who engage with it in its activities, who publish papers or who benefit from its financial support also uphold such standards.
- Consideration of your application
Applications are circulated to members of the PAOC Scientific Committee who then make their recommendations to the Local Organizing Committee (LOC).
Applicants will be contacted in June 2022 to inform them of the outcome of their application.
- Being offered an award
Awards are offered subject to a presentation being accepted.
- Taking up, and payment of, an award
